This! It's so difficult to explain this to parents with neurotypical children. My boys aren't misbehaving; they are having a physical & psychological response to something their body perceives as a threat. Punishing them does not make the behavior stop. Removing/avoiding the stimuli and sometimes therapy are the only things that will help!
