Sensory DIY - Sensory Critters

Here is a sensory DIY that even those with limited sewing experience can do!

Materials:
- felt
- sewing needle
- thread
- material for fillers (rice, macaroni, cotton, beans, etc.)

Directions:
1. Cut two pieces of felt back-to-back so they are the same size & shape. (You do not have to cut into a "critter" shape. Basic shapes will work just as well.)

2. Run a long length of thread through the needle, double the thread over, and secure the end with a knot.

3. If you are going to add small shapes to make a "face", now is the time. Cut shapes in your desired sizes & stitch them onto one of your main shapes. (Cut & tie off the ends of the thread each time you finish with a face part.)

4. Place your pieces of felt right side out, and attach the two sides by stitching around the shape about 1/4" from the edge of the fabric. Make sure your stitches are close enough together that whatever filler you choose can not come out.

5. Pause stitching with about 1" left to go, and fill the shape with your desired filler material.

6. Sew the hole closed, tie off the thread securely, & cut any excess fabric.

Let your littles enjoy!

I suggest making several of these with different filler materials to introduce and discuss different textures with your kids.
